"The Cipher" can be translated into English as "serendipity". Michael and his best friend Jordan are on a road trip during a snowstorm in the middle of nowhere when they run out of gasoline. This is where the Cipher closes, as a similar event had occurred years before as Michael and his band embarked upon their first tour together.
Katie Asaro grew up in Gloucester, MA, moved to Missoula in 2011, and spent most of her life being introduced with a connection in front of her name. While she is quite proud of all of the relationships and connections in her life, tonight she is not Steve Asaro's daughter. She is not Mike LaPointe's girlfriend. She's just Katie.
“March fourth” is a warning as she leaves, travelling from Baja, Mexico to Los Ceretos, through La Paz to travel to San Diego with a straggler from Germany named Katia. Katia does not like Karla’s dogs, but they needed each other as road trip companions. They pull into Jesus Maria as they run out of gasoline, spending too much money on gasoline. Making their way onward, they make a human connection that culminates in an incident at the Mexican border.
Damon Ristau, director of the independent film “Best Bar in America” is in search of a motorcycle with a sidecar in Missoula, MT during the winter. The Montana Legends’ Annual New Year’s Day Ride is happening when Damon walks across the bridge and the adventure begins 6 months later. Jim Beyer lends Damon his motorcycle and sidecar. Jim tries for a long time to get back his motorbike after lending it to the local filmmaker.
At a very young age Ethan has a dream of being a father. He loved how kids are so present and that they love him for being silly. He meets a woman in Chicago who has a child. The marriage goes sour, but Ethan sticks it out. For a while. The courts get involved. Then the Missoula community steps in and helps Ethan out in ways he never expected.
Pat sits next to Coretta Scott King at a dinner party 25 years ago and asks her what gave Dr. King the strength to give the speech at the Lincoln Memorial. Mrs. King describes the speech that he had initially written, about bouncing checks. A speech he didn’t really like. He was convinced to talk about his dream after he was about ½ way through his written speech.
Beth steps into the Top Hat for the first time after Steve Garr, the previous owner, dies in order to honor his dream of bringing great live music to Missoula. She convinces the new owner, Steve’s daughter Colee, into bringing “Family Friendly Friday” to happy hour once a week. Then she shares her current dream for Missoula.
