“The Reverend King's Real Dream”
Pat Williams hails from Butte, MT and attended the University of Montana and four other colleges. He taught for thirty years, including teaching postgraduate students at U of M for the past sixteen years. Pat served Montana for nine terms in the U.S. Congress from 1979 until 1997. That represents more consecutive terms than served by any other Representative in Montana history.
Pat sits next to Coretta Scott King at a dinner party 25 years ago and asks her what gave Dr. King the strength to give the speech at the Lincoln Memorial. Mrs. King describes the speech that he had initially written, about bouncing checks. A speech he didn’t really like. He was convinced to talk about his dream after he was about ½ way through his written speech.
This edition of Tell Us Something was recorded on December 16th, 2014 at the Top Hat Lounge in Missoula, MT. The theme was “These Dreams”. Pat’s story is called “The Reverend King’s Real Dream”.
