“Smoke and Fall Gone”

Josh Slotnick is a vegetable farmer. He remembers the night in 2000 that the Hells Angles arrive in Missoula. The same night the North Hills catch fire. Downtown Missoula is overcome with out of town cops in riot gear. The Rainbow Gathering folks are in town as well. Missoula fills with smoke from wildland forest fires. The night he shared this story Missoula had just come away from weeks of smoke filling the valley from wildland fire smoke.

Josh Slotnick is the director of the PEAS farm, a partnership between Garden City Harvest and the University of Montana’s Environmental Studies program. Josh is a lecturer in the Environmental Studies Program, and he lives on a farm with his family. His book HomeFarm came out in 2013, and this is his third time in this kind of event.

This edition of Tell Us Something was recorded on September 11, 2015 at the Dennison Theater at the University of Montana in Missoula, MT.  This episode features the Josh Slotnick and is titled “Smoke and Fall Gone”. Thank you for listening.
