“Don’t Pick up the Ball!”

This quarter’s Tell us Something was recorded on June 11th, 2013 at the Top Hat Lounge in Missoula, MT. The theme was “Perception”.

Howard Kingston shares his story “Don’t Pick up the Ball!”. Howard Kingston, in 1978 has his mind blown when he is told the difference between subjective and objective and is told to read “In Search of the Miraculous” by Russian philosopher P. D. Ouspensky, and joins a cult as a result.

After misspending most of his youth as the lead singer in a rock band in his native England, Howard Kingston finally settled down in the US and eventually in Missoula in 1995 where he got his B.M. in Music Composition/Technology at UM, earned an M.F.A. in Media Arts and where he currently is working towards a Masters in Musical Theater.

First and foremost a trained singer, he has performed many times from the blues, rock and jazz to classical arias and opera. On the insistence of “dramatic” friends, Howard became an actor in the last 12 years and has performed as Scrooge in “A Xmas Carol”, Max Bialystock in Mel Brooks’ “The Producers”, Captain Hook in “Peter Pan”, Dracula and, most recently, as Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof” among many other roles for The MCT Community Theater, The Montana Rep Missoula, and The UM Drama Department as well as for other independent local theater companies. He is a regular D.J. on Montana Public Radio’s Freeforms show and, believe it or not, a Spin instructor. Howard Kingston has twice been voted Best Local Actor in The Missoula Independent’s annual public polls.
