“6 Dollar Kids”
This edition of Tell Us Something was recorded on February 18th, 2014 at the Top Hat Lounge in Missoula, MT. The theme was “What Are You Waiting For”.
Geoff Peops shares his story “6 Dollar Kids”. It’s 1974. Geoff and his friend have some guidelines for getting into mischief: Make it inconvenient for parents, do no harm to others. But what about harm to themselves?
Geoff Pepos’ father and mother were public school music teachers. His father, high school band. His mother, Jr. high orchestra. Geoff began playing violin at the age of 3. He’s been told he could play “Turkey in the Straw” which he’s sure is a song about a three year old sawing away at a violin haphazardly. “Master one thing and you can do anything”, his father often said. Along the way he’s managed to make a feature film which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and a PBS documentary about the last largest late urban farm in Los Angeles. Geoff is not sure if he’s mastered anything just yet and often wonders if mastering anything has ever been achieved by anyone.
