“Don't Do Anything Stupid”
Jon Turk, along with Eric Boomer, kayak south in the Nares Strait in the Arctic Ocean, a strait that is 12 miles wide and full of chunks of ice smashing into one another.
Jon Turk received his Ph.D. in chemistry in 1971 and wrote the first environmental science textbook in North America. He has since engaged in extreme outdoor expeditions. Jon’s circumnavigation of Ellesmere with Erik Boomer was nominated in 2012 by National Geographic as one of the world’s “Top Ten Adventures of the Year” and was also awarded “Expedition of the Year” by Canoe and Kayak Magazine. He received “First Place in Print Journalism” by Northern Lights Awards. Jon is the author of “The Raven’s Gift” and “In the Wake of the Joman: Stone Age Mariners and a Voyage Across the Pacific“.
