2022 End-of-Year Wrap Up

As we conclude 2022 together, we are excited to share that Tell Us Something is officially a 501(c)3 non-profit organization! It has been a long journey. Tell Us Something started as a passion project for our Executive Director, Marc Moss 11 years ago. So many people have opened their hearts and told stories, wonderful groups of supporters have attended events, and over the years there has been unending support from the Missoula community. This has culminated with Tell Us Something’s most exciting announcement thus far: we were officially granted non-profit status on July 8, 2022.

As with so many stories, we are so excited to tell you more about this year and how you can join Tell Us Something’s mission.

We returned to hosting live events!

We celebrated the return to live events in March with the theme “Stone Soup”. This summer, we had a magical evening at Bonner Park Bandshell with the theme “Didn’t See That Coming.” Our largest event ever took place in September with the theme “Letting Go.” Between the three shows, we had over 2,250 attendees listening to 23 storytellers share of themselves. And we closed out the 2022 season at The Wilma on the theme “It’s the Little Things” on December 15.

•We have led workshops for community members around the state of Montana and beyond

•So far, we have produced 17 podcast episodes

•At every live event we provide American Sign Language interpreters to increase accessibility to the Missoula community

•Every storyteller is compensated for their time and vulnerability

Yet, we still have expenses.

While sponsorships and ticket revenue help defray the expense of operating Tell Us Something, we need your help to bridge the gap that remains. Two years without in-person events meant two years without revenue.

To continue the mission of Tell Us Something, we are inviting you to donate today.

We work hard to keep ticket prices affordable. We work hard to be fiscally responsible, and, until 2020, never carried any debt. We were able to have our modest PPP loans forgiven and are looking forward to repaying the $8,900 COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan we had to take in order to survive.

We often reflect on what makes a good story. One can name a number of elements, but it’s you. It’s our community. It’s the roomful of people who come together to listen, to witness, and to share in one of the most powerful means of connecting. We are asking for you to join in our mission. You too can be part of Tell Us Something’s exciting new chapter as a non-profit organization.

It is astounding to think that just this year over 6,500 people have attended events, listened to the Tell Us Something podcast, watched the stories on YouTube, or participated in a workshop. Every person who tells a story, listens, or takes part joins
the greater celebration of storytelling and bringing our community together.

We can’t accomplish anything alone. Tell Us Something is dependent on community support like yours. You can give in several ways:
•Send a donation by check

Become a monthly sustainer or make a one-time donation.

•Your business can become a sponsor

•If you are unable to donate, please consider contacting us to help volunteer for our storytelling events or advocate helping to gain business sponsors. Thank you for being part of Tell Us Something’s story.

We wish you a joyous holiday season.
